Pendular Physiology

Out of the abundance of primitive organisms on Pendulus Prime rose the Pendular species. After many years under the dual suns, Pendular 1 and 2, a subspecies evolved: The Variants.

Pendulars (The Originals)

Height: 5’6” Weight: 137 pounds Strength: Routinely lift ~70 lbs. IQ: 160 Life Span: 137 years

Diet: Herbivorous Skin color: Shades of mainly blue, green, and occasionally purple.

Notes: Fixed black claws Redundant body systems 80% of Pendular population

Pendulars (The Variants)

Height: 5’3” Weight: 109 pounds Strength: Routinely lift ~40 lbs. IQ: 168 Life Span: 121 years

Diet: Omnivorous Skin color: Shades of blue; rarely shades of green.

Notes: Retractable black claws Non-redundant body systems 20% of Pendular population

The species has an uncanny resemblance with the humans of earth. They are mostly the same, but have different colored skin. In addition, 1 inch claws replace the fingernails. Variants can retract these claws, made of a tough, flexible material with a habit of breaking in flakes, so they occupy the same space as human fingernails. Pendulars also have 6 fingers, leading to their use of a base twelve counting system.

Pendulars have an abundance of turopyhll, a blue chemical, in their skin. Around half of the Originals also have hatortin or qwertin in their skin, turning them green or purple, respectively. Only hatortin has ever been found to be present in variant skin, and there have been no documented cases of both hatortin and qwertin in a pendular's skin.

Pendulus History

Industrial Revolution (5000-4500 B.C.E.)

The Pendular variant first appeared around this time. By 4500 B.C.E., they controlled 1 of the planet’s 3 continents.

Atomic Age (4500-4200 B.C.E.)

During this time, the two different kinds of Pendulars both developed nuclear weapons. In the year 4382 B.C.E., the weapons were used to devastate both populations in the First Great War. The war ended in a stalemate when the John Tiori, a scientist working for the “Originals” developed a single Tiori bomb, a weapon utilizing the destructive power of a tofu-like compound. The Originals, with the Tiori bomb, were finally able to fend off Variant aggression.

Space Age (4,200-3800 B.C.E.)

After the Pendulars recovered from the First Great War, the Variants formed the Realist Imperium while the Originals formed the Preservationist Alliance. The preservationists eventually found a way to harness their Tiori bombs to create Tiori reactors capable of powering theoretical subspace relay drives. These eventually managed to achieve warp speed in 4035 B.C.E., giving the Preservationists a huge tactical advantage over the Realists, and in the Second Great War, easily decimated Realist forces stationed on nearby planets, confined to around ˝ the speed of light. With rapid hit and run tactics, outrunning any enemy salvo, they eventually seized all territory off Pendulus Prime. The Realists were forced to sue for peace.

Unification (3854 B.C.E.)

In 3854 B.C.E., The Realists and Preservationists merged to form the Pendulus Imperium. They achieved Warp 5 sixty years later, and colonized two nearby systems, later named the Realism and Preservation systems. These became their home bases for later expansion.

Age of Expansion (3750-1700 B.C.E.)

Up until 1500 B.C.E., the Imperium were conducting exploratory efforts and colonized two dozen systems. In addition, military and propulsion tech flourished as rumors of the “Sakturi” circulated. New armor for warships and energy shields were developed, as well as soy torpedoes, designed to supplant the older Tiori torpedoes with the destructive force of fusing soy beans. The Imperium was also exposed to new technology such as photon, quantum torpedoes, which were later rejected in favor of the Tiori and soy torpedoes. Meanwhile, the aging subspace relay drives were replaced by subspace cascade drives.

A Lucky Find (1699 C.E.)

In 1500 C.E., the Imperium invaded a nearby race, that of the Centiris. The Imperium blew past the Centiri defense, eventually capturing the whole system. On a planet, they found extensive research on transphasic torpedoes and an interphase cloak salvaged from an unknown race. This was sent back to the Pendulus System, where Steve Tiori, a descendant of the famous John Tiori, took control of research efforts over phasic devices.

The Renaissance (1705 C.E.)

Steve Tiori’s research team eventually managed to adapt such technology to serve their own purposes, creating interphasic torpedoes that operated much like Federation transphasic torpedoes. Steve then managed to wrap the energy around Pendulus ships, phasing all incoming weaponry to a phase completely detached from our weaponry.

The Third War (2300 C.E.-2301 C.E.)

Richard Senzer led a tenth of the total Pendular population into war against the rest, all of whom were variants. In the Battle of Pendular 4, 172 out of just over 200 Pendular ships were destroyed by Senzer's modified torpedoes, phased to phases unaccesible to the Loyalists at the time. Eventually Loyalist spies managed to transmit crucial phase-related data to the Loyalist fleet, stopping the Variant advance and smashing the remaining Variant ships.

Two months later, the Sefhoil Empire, a nearby power, attacked the still-crippled Pendulars. In a lightning campaign, they attacked 15 outlying Pendular systems, forcing the Pendulars to rapidly withdraw to their remaining systems. As another Sefhoil invasion was starting, the Alurmian Republic, longtime enemies of the Sefhoils, repelled the invaders with the help of the remnants of the Imperium's fleet. 4 months later, a joint Pendular-Alurmian fleet launched a counterattack on the occupyed systems, seizing them and briniging the Third War to a close.

Alliance (2357 C.E.)

Nearly 6 decades after the war ended, the Pendulus Imperium had rebuilt its proud fleet, incorporating the newest Variant technology into its aging designs. New armor was installed, with greater firepower at its disposal. The Alurmian Republic then approached the Imperium and joined the Imperium, increasing total territory to 57 systems.

Present (4459 C.E.)

Government

There are two main branches in Pendular society: The Civilian and Military branches. Each is led by one person, who report to the (elected) Supreme Overlord.Recently, the government structure has changed to model that of a Republic more closely.

The Civilian Branch

Led by: Imperium Administrator -Head of Senate -elected by the Senate

Senate

-2 senators per planet -elected by citizens -deals with interplanetary relations -60% needed for a measure to pass

Planets:

-ruled by Administrator -elected by citizens -senators report to him; local government

States

-ruled by president -elected by Council of Governors -reports to senator

Cities

-ruled by Governor -elected by people in the city -reports to local President.

The Military Branch

Led by: Supreme Commander, to whom the individual branch leaders report.

Imperial Starfleet

Led by the Fleet Commander. Very well funded; the main branch of the military. Also handles air defense and navy.

Rankings: Fleet Commander

Fleet Admiral Admiral Secondary Admiral

Captain Commander Lieutenant

Imperial Ground Forces

Led by the Army Commander. Not-so-well funded; the secondary branch of the military.

Rankings Army Commander

In addition, there are several "occupations" each unit has: -Trooper Carries an standard rifle (or a SMG) and a pistol; the cannon fodder of the military. -Flanker Uses sniper rifles or high capacity guns, typically stay in place covering a troop advance. Highly precise in long range combat; typically deployed on vehicles. The close combat skills of an orange tree. -Elite Commands Flankers and Troopers into combat, carries a heavy-duty rifle into combat. -Operator Drives vehicles with awe-inspiring skills. Aims guns as well as a lump of tofu.

Special Forces

Led by the Omniscient One. Tasked with intel collection and smoothing out "complications".

These are usually drafted from the army's best. Stealth and sweet moves are neccesities here, as well as good aim and skill with a knife.

Diplomatic Status

We are currently attempting to contact numerous outside races for alliance before the Sefhoils do so.

Atara

Currently Neutral, envoys have been sent.

Ionians

Currently Neutral, envoys have been sent.

Dvarian Imperium

Currently Friendly, envoys have been sent and appreciated.

Plasmans

Currently Neutral, Attempts to locate their space have failed.

Etheri

A old, unmanned probe vanished a while ago in their territory. Soon after, we dispatched 6 warships to investigate the incident and discovered an Etheri ship; perhaps the same one that had caused the loss of the probe. As the fleet charged weapons, they were hailed and greeted by the Etheri ship. Apparently, the Etheri ship had devoured the probe for the substantial amount of tofu inside. We now know that the Etheri enjoy eating tofu and are attempting to form an alliance with them.

Carthiginians

Currently Neutral, attempts to locate them have failed.

Militosal

Currently Neutral, envoys have been sent. However, we are wary of this race's sheer destructive power and so are proceeding with extreme caution.

Rumanii

Currently Neutral, envoys have been sent.

Faran

A seemingly benevolent race, we are conducting negotiations with them, which seem to go well. 50 years ago, first contact was made with the Faran and Syndicate, but the fleet was withdrawn almost immediately as the third war began.

Syndicate

50 years ago, first contact was made with the Faran and Syndicate, but the fleet was withdrawn almost immediately as the third war began. Unlike with the Faran, we are proceeding carefully as rumors abound this race is not among the most trustworthy.

Sakturi

We are currently keeping our distance from them as rumors have reached us about their cruelty and power.

Technology

Offensive Technology

Interphasic torpedoes

Pendulus versions of transphasic torpedoes. These are armed with uprated Tiori warheads.

Interphasic energy weapons

Used by Pendulus foot soldiers and occasionally mounted on starships, these operate virtually identically to interphasic torpedoes.

Interphasic cascade pulse cannon

These draw energy from several phases to make an energy bolt, increasing the energy fired dramatically. However, this puts a significant drain on our power systems and is only installed on 3 of our ships. Efforts are underway to adapt this weapon so it can fire into multiple phases.

Defensive Technology

Multiphasic shields

Shielding that phases incoming weapon fire in a one-way journey to another phase. The receiving plane is unable to communicate with the sending plane. In addition, the receiving plane changes every 5 microseconds, but will eventually loop back to a previously used phase. These currently cover about 20% of known phases, deflecting weapon fire from each of them and preventing attack by transphasic torpedoes. A recent addition prevents chroniton torpedoes and items in subspace from sneaking through.

Interphase cloaks

These phase entire ships to alternate phases not used by multiphasic shields.

Propulsion Technology

Subspace Cascade Drives

Capable of up to Warp 9.993 for 24 hours.

Subspace Ripple Drive

Capable of up to Transwarp 1 for 1.37 seconds. Recharges every week. In addition, after exiting transwarp, the ship is forced to operate on extremely low energy reserves, capable of projecting shielding after 3 hours, engines after 6 hours, warp after 15 hours, and weapons after 24 hours.

Power Source

Tiori Reactor:

Capable of powering a ship’s systems for up to 19 years with full tofu reserves. These use the power of combusting tofu to create energy.
