Talk:Kry-Gothic (the open source table top wargame)
From BluWiki
I will slowly be updating the rules of Kry-Gothic over the next few months/years/eons, most of which I wrote many years back when I was in school. Hope those of you that stop by find it interesting =)
- Seems like a fascinating game. It was smart to apply the "open source" model here - I've never seen this done before. Hopefully you will see generous participation, futhering the game's development. Let me know if there's anything I can do. --Sam Odio 04:35, 6 Sep 2005 (EDT)

- Thanks mate ^_^
Re: Small-step
- What about making a small step, then charging? Don't you basically get a "free step" in there? Maybe small steps should only be allowed if the next AP cost is not movement. E.G., you can take a small step and fire, but not a small step and then charge.

- |_Re: Small-step: Boolean
- mmm, good point. As I was writing that I was sure there would be ways it could be taken advantage of. I like the suggestion you made, in that the next move should not be allowed to be movement (excluding rotating I'm assuming).
- Cheers =)

two new sections
Ok, I added two big sections on close combat and ranged combat. They will still need a fair amount of play testing though to make iron out bugs.

Maybe multiple pages?
Boolean, I'm reading all this and am very impressed. Have you thought of turning this into multiple pages to make it easier to navigate? You could have each chapter be a seperate page. Just a thought --Sam Odio 09:12, 1 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- mmmm, never really thought about it. It would make it easier to read. Heck, why not! Ok, you’re on! I'll do it ^_^
Wow...
I'm very impresed by the work you put into this. If you've ever got something you want to be tested, just drop a line and I'll have a look with my friends. We like MageKnight, and it's got rules similar to this, but as you said, the problem is that things cost money. This is free.
I'd be glad to help any way I can. Toodles. Mrmanme 14:58, 13 December 2005 (EST)

- Teehee, thanks ^_^
- I've been a bit slack working on the rules lately (I've been doing a webcomic on the side and working on a few websites). I'm hoping to get the rules to an alpha stage, where at least a basic test run of the rules can be done. First thing that needs to be done to do that is the units. I'm hoping to get The Earth Confederate done first, so test runs with them can be run.
Aliens
- I believe the orcs should go. They're a direct and blatant ripoff of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 and take a characteristic that's already cliched and predictable. Surely we can do better. [Thucydides]

- I've removed the Orc section entirely. I think the awesome section on the Heracletians that someone else wrote is enough to take their place.
- May I add background information on the Possessed? The existing info is fragmentary. [Thucydides.]

- Sure! As a general rule, everyone is free to add rules, discussion should be made on changes, and removal of sections is only in extreme cases.
Would a website interest anyone?
I was wondering today if I should make a central website for Kry-Gothic, along with a proper forum for people to discuss the rules on. Of course the rules will stay here. That way it would be easier to see news and updates on the rules, it would be easier to promote the game, easier to discuss the rules with other members, and sections such as art would be made easier. Would anyone be interested in this?

That's a really interesting project! I thought about developing an opensource tabletop game recently. Please put up a seperate website for it, that would be great. There need to be a system developed that would make it easy for everybody to create new races. Or to convert races from other games. For instance, I like the Warhammer Orks very much, and privately I would like to play with them (including their story background) in this game. /supermatse

Well I've started work on a website which once launched should get the project moving with some speed. I've made a bunch of changes to the rule system after getting some play testing done and fixing sections which simply did not work. With some made up units and gear, I was able to play a full game tonight with only a few issues with the rules, so I was pleased with that. Since the rules are getting quite close to playable, I'll try and get this website up as soon as I can. I'm really looking foward to what comes of all this =)
